Leading up to the year 2000, despite existing constraints on arrivals and gate space, there had been no substantial investment to increase the capacity of Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport (ORD) for more than 20 years. As a vital link for travelers and airlines in the upper Midwest, it was critical to upgrade the airport’s capacity. Beginning in 2001, the City of Chicago, the Federal Aviation Administration, and private airlines initially committed $6.6 billion to fund major renovations and additions to O’Hare.
Starting in 2005, Kapur began providing services for the O’Hare Modernization Project with our control, staking and layout, and verification services on the O’Hare Water Retention Basin and Pump Stations project. Our top-tier performance on that project enabled us to secure additional projects, including the 245-foot-high North Control Tower – a 10,000-square-foot building with a green roof – and the repaving of runways 9L and 10L.

Since then, we have continued contributions to the project by performing control, staking, layout, modeling, and LiDAR services on more than 180 individual projects across ORD including the Depressed Baggage Project, Egin O’Hare Tollway, NE Cargo Project, Taxiway NN, Central Deicing Facility, Runway 9C Phases I and II, and the O’Hare Airport Transportation System (ATS).
Additionally, we are performing LiDAR gate scanning across the airport for numerous airlines, including United and American, as gate rehabilitation and re-striping projects move forward.
