Challenge
Kapur assisted Judlau Contracting in completing a site survey of the Elgin I-290 Interchange.
Judlau was concerned with several spoil pits accumulating on site. Due to project sequencing, these areas needed to be surveyed for volume before the material was removed.
Solution
The tight schedule and incredibly active site prompted Kapur to use an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) to quickly capture survey data for these areas.
Kapur, being relatively new to UAV survey, engaged a partner to collect the aerial data for this site. Our staff then used the data for surface creation, orthography, and mapping. Our engineers analyzed the data to compare excavation and material volumes.
Services Provided
- Site reconnaissance and flight plan creation
- Obstructions included power lines, high tension lines, transmission towers, and bridges
- Control (17 points)
- Targets
- Two flights
- 287 photos
- Orthography
- Mapping
- Visualizations
Industries Covered
- 3D Modeling
- Survey
Results
The flight provided Judlau Contracting with everything they required and more. Not only did they receive the volumes required, but Kapur also provided very detailed imagery of the site for future needs.
