Challenge
As part of the Zoo Interchange project, Kapur developed geometric improvements and provided project management for the 0.51-mile urban reconstruction of Glenview Avenue (STH 181) between Bluemound Road and Wisconsin Avenue. The project team worked with WisDOT and the City of Wauwatosa to analyze several different typical sections to minimize impacts to adjacent trees and a historic residential district.
Solution
The finished typical section reduced the number of travel lanes, removed existing on-street parking and included 11-foot driving lanes, sharrows, and a 14-foot center two-way left-turn lane. Opposing left-turn lanes were added at the intersection with Bluemound Road.
